I have a Dexxa mouse.
Cheap (~ $25) but very good quality.

It is a Microsoft protocol 3 button mouse.
It won't work with the midddle button if Emulate3Buttons is in the
XF86Config.
It does work quite well without any such line in the XF86Config.
I am using XFree86 3.1.2 and all 3 buttons work fine, and completely
independently.

Try removing any Emulate3Button or ChordMiddle or similar lines from the
XF86Config.

It worked for me.

P.S. I think some X configuration scripts mistakenly assume that a
microsoft mouse needs Emulate3Buttons. So thats why you might
have such a line in your XF86Config which needs to be removed
manually.
