I am seeking information on how to set up my lap top (Dual SKD-4000) and the PCMCIA CDROM (Creative Labs Omni4X). I have had Linux running for some time on the lap top but I have no idea how to access the attached PCMCIA CDROM. I have read the PCMCIA-HOWTO and the CDROM-HOWTO and the suggestion there is that the PCMCIA CDROM is probably supported under the ATAPI ``IDE'' interface. That suggests that, when I have the system propoerly configured, the CDROm should appear as something like /dev/hdb. There are two aspects of what I want to solve: 1. I want to be able to install Linux from the CD - booting from a floppy 2. I want to mount the CD during normal operations (and, since the version I have on the lap top is out of date, preferably do 1 before 2). Can anyone confirm/state the way the CDROM is supported? I have tried a few things: I got the idecd boot disk (slackware) and the pcmcia root disk and tried booting from these. There is one worrying message: BIOS32extensions missing - sorry this version requires these (or something to that effect). But the system appears to boot. However, when I try to mount the CDROM mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb /cdrom I get the message file system iso9660 not supported - see /proc/filesystems for supported types - a mysterious message since the file system iso9660 is indeed listed in this file! So, any helpful pointers appreciated. regards d.s. -- David Suter - Dept. of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering, Monash University, Clayton, Vic. 3168, Australia ph 905 5682 Fax 905 3454
