Help with man and printer under Linux

When I try to use key word search under man I get the following 
fg : no job control
apropos: manpath in null
Error executing formatting or display command.
System command exited with status 256.


I am having problems, when I go into lpc it tells me that it is 
waiting for lp to become ready (offline ?), but it is online

Can some help please.....
