Notes from the SLUG meeting held on Mar 29th at UTS. SLUG hasn't died, it has just come out of Summer hibernation. Several things were discussed with reference to the group. There was general agreement that we should continue. Merging with another group (e.g. AUUG, PC User group) was discussed and dropped - mainly due to charges and we felt we we're doing OK as is. The venue, dates and times were discussed. The convenience and cost of UTS seem so overwhelming that we decided to continue there. The room at UTS is really only certainly free on Friday night, so that's where slug remains. The time was agreed to be modified from 6.30 start to a 6.30 to 7.00 O'clock start, to give people more time to get there after work. A small working comittee was agreed upon, myself (Jamie Honan) Ken Yap and Graeme Kelly to help organise things. No fees were thought neccessary if we continue to meet at UTS. There was some discussion about future direction. It was felt we didn't need to grow larger for growing larger's sake. If we can keep our meetings informal and enjoyable then we need no other excuse to meet. However, we do need to broaden our appeal. To that end, our next meeting will be a newbie night with the following extras: There will be a samba setup, with help on how to setup samba There will be help given on Linux installation There should be a demo of the Willows emulator There should be a Connectix camera where we can all have our faces and names recorded and (hopefully) added to the web page so we all know who we are (now if I could only remember where I put myself...) There will be an opportunity to ring up for pizza. The next meeting will be announced via the newsgroup as well as the mailing list. The only wrinkle is that the last Friday is just after Anzac day which is a Thursday. Part of our general discussion was that we should still hold meetings , regularly, last Friday as something everyone can rely on. Anyway, watch for the announcement, and if you feel inclined, come along and enjoy yourself. Help others, and learn a little yourself. Jamie
