I'm in the same boat. Thanks for tha advice, Preston.

I have an Osborne P75 (sorry) system with an IDE 2x (Sorry again) that hops
off the Vibra 16 Audio card.

I can't see my CD drive in Linux either. I was told, just now, by an Osborne
help-desk operator, that I can move the cable to the secondary IDE port on
the mother board. He felt that I would have to enable this port in the BIOS
(accessable at start-up). He didn't mention however, changing the CD from
slave to master but I'd be interested in what you find.

So far I have coped with copying stuff from the CD-Rom onto my (Win 95)
hard-drive partition and then accessing it from Linux. I agree, it is a bit
of hassle but I'm not far enough into Linux to worry about it.

And now, if I can borrow Preston's disclaimer for a moment.....
NOTE: Just because I say something doesn't mean that my
employers agree with it or condone it. If you want
to believe this isn't so, then that's your fault,
       not mine or Macquarie Bank's.
