I too had a problem - The problem was due to the fact that the people who
had sold me my computer had set the CDROM to be on the Secondary IDE
Channel as a slave with nothing on the master. This causes Linux to not
be able to recognise the device when doing an ATAPI CD-Rom setup. To
solve this you need to open up your machine and change the jumper setting
of the Cd-rom drive to be a Master device (that's assuming you haven't
already got a master device on the secondary channel) - As easy as that :-)

But seriously, the jumper on the Cd-rom drive (which is located on the
back left if I remember) is clearly labelled so if
you have a basic knowledge of computers, doing it yourself should be no
problem.

Hope you get it going... Cheers.
