Folks,
I am trying to configure X windows on my Osborne system. Has anyone got it
working on the following or similar configuration ? I would appreciate any
advice that may be available, especially if it includes a working XF86config!

At the moment, calling X withthe command 'startx' I get a blank white screen
with no cursor, mouse indicator, etc. All I can do is Alt-Ctrl-backspace to
exit. I have spent some time trying various permutations and obtaining
information from the manufacturer and other sources.

If someone is able to help me here, I'd be very grateful. If appropriate,
please email-me direct rather than post to any news-group.

Regards and thanks in advance, David Marriott

About the system:
The system is a standard configuration as released by Osborne in mid-1995,
before they went under and were subsequently taken over by Gateway 2000.

System : Osborne Computers P75
Osborne stock-code : 53002B230
Motherboard : Micronics (I think)
Video : On-mother-board ATI Mach 64 with 2048K memory

Monitor : Osborne (re-badged MAGTRON) MAG15DLS, manufactured Feb 1995

Audio card : Vibra 16 (S/B compatable) with 2x Creative CD-ROM on IDE port
(I'm looking to move this to the 2nd IDE port on the M/B)

Incidentally :
scanpci tells me the Video card is configured as :

PCI probing configuration type 1
.
.
ATI Mach64
Status 0x0200 Command 0x0083
Class 0x03 0x00 0x00 Revision 0x01

BASEROM 0x20000000 addr 0x20000000 not-decode-enabled
MAX_LAT 0x00 MIN_GNT 0x00 INT_PIN 0x01 INT_LINE 0x0b

Superprobe tells me :
First Video : Super VGA
        Chipset: ATI 88800GX
        Memory: 2048 Kbytes
        RAMDAC: AT&T 20C498/21C498 15/16/24-bit DAC w/pixel mux
(with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6-bit mode))
(programmable for 6/8-bit wide lookup tables)
        Attached graphics coprocessor :
                Chipset : ATI Mach64
                Memory: 2048 Kbytes
