The aic7xxx cards have to be "loaded" with their firmware, so to speak, akin to the NCR '810 cards. The mailbox interface of the BusLogic cards like the 445S or 445C is much more tested by users, and very stable. Also Adaptec cards are still rumoured to be more sensitive to minor cabling/termination "infringements" as compared to other vendors products. Also there are AMI VLB SCSI cards that are hardware compatible with the BusLogic cards. These even come in a caching variety. Paul.
