HEEEELP!!! I've got Slackware 3.0 installed and working fine (so far, I think, only installed it on the weekend from the Nov '95 Infomagic CD set). I then installed XFree86 and hit problems when it came to setting up the XF86Config file, I have no details at all about my monitor. All I know is it is 14" and SVGA. It has "Super5" and "Low Radiation" written on the front. On the back is a sticker that says: "Model: SVI 1428NI S/N: 94077842" I bought the computer second hand and it came with no manuals etc. The bloke I got it from has no idea of the specs and has no manuals either. How can I find out more info about it?? (eg. brand, all the horizontal and vertical scan rates etc). I eventually set it up at the minimum "standard" settings (at 640x480) and got it up and running and I can pop up xterms, but "complex" things like the Xfilemanager and games etc won't appear. When I exitted the window manager, once there was an X-error about not enough virtual memory! Could this be related to the monitor problems?? Some specs of my system: 486DX2-66, 8Mb RAM, S3 1Mb VLB video card, 406Mb Conner HD (master) all DOS, 1.2Gb Quantum Fireball HD (slave) partitioned as: 300Mb DOS 200Mb / (root) 16Mb swap 400Mb /usr rest (about 300Mb) /home. I have LILO installed on the MBR of the master (Conner) HD - works great. Should I have more swap?? (the howto suggests a total of RAM + swap = 16Mb should be enough, I have 8 + 16 = 24Mb total here). It would be a bloody nuisance to repartition etc, but I would like it set up "right" so will if I have to. While I'm here too, what about my partitions?? Is 200Mb root far too much?? Any comments on my partitions?? Thanks (in advance) for any help! Dave. -- _______________________________________________________________________ | . | | Rev.
