Rebuilding the kernel is only half the battle. Once the kernel supports
MS-DOS partitions then you have to tell the system that your DOS partition
should be mounted at boot time. This is done by adding a line to the file
/etc/fstab. I don't have the exact format of the file handy (I don't run
Linux) but you should add a line something like this:

	/dev/hda1	/dos	msdos	defaults

This line assumes that your DOS partition is on the first primary partition
of your first IDE drive and that you have created a directory called
/dos on which to mount the partition. After making this update you should be
able to type mount -av and the partition should be visible (or you can reboot).

Aliases are set when logging in as an interactive shell, not at boot

Two things here (1) Do NOT login as root! You can do a lot of damage
to the system - your best strategy is to login in as a normal user
and then su to root when you need to do something with root permissions.

Sure, the important thing is that you specify somewhere on the filesystem
to mount the floppy. You could even put the floppy in your /etc/fstab
as follows:-

	/dev/fd0	/floppy	msdos	noauto,user

/mark
