Has anyone else dealt with a similar problem? When I do cat >/dev/cua1 and watch the modem lights or an RS232 monitor without the modem and with or without a loopback plug, I get a peculiar delay, as follows: a # No delay aa # ditto aaa # ditto aaaa # ditto aaaaa # five second delay Similarly when I use dip, slip, rlogin, ftp, a similar delay occurs. The system is typical - 386/387, 16 Mb, 350Mb + 540Mb ide hard drives, 5 1/4 and 3 1/2 floppies, two serial ports (8250 mouse, 16450 /dev/cua1), parallel port, sound blaster pro, cdrom - 562J Interrrupts reported 3, 4 serial ports, 5 sbpro, 14 ide, 13 fpu, which is what I thought they were. Kernel configured for the above - slakware Linux 1.2.1. Distributed kernel shows the same problem. I have not yet investigated interrupt conflicts by removing hardware. -- Peter Horan School of Computing and Mathematics peter@deakin.edu.au Deakin University +61-52-27 1234 (Voice) Geelong, Victoria 3217 +61-52-27 2028 (FAX) Australia http://www.cm.deakin.edu.au/~peter
