I have noticed this news thread for sometime and have seen some answers to
the problem that may or may not be included in the Linux system, but for
the short term there is a program called unrm that was written by Dave
Taylor, the author of ELM, which allows a user to recover a file after
they have removed it using the rm command.
The source is on the Ohio State computer, I don't remember what news group.
The program moves the file to a temporary storage area from which it can be
recovered. A process is run out of cron to actually remove the files
permanetly. This can be set to remove files from 1 day old to 5 weeks old,
depending on your storage.
If there is a real need for this program I can do the research and post
the actual location on this newsgroup.
