I've been trying to make a boot disk, a la the recipies on the CD-ROMS, for the Slackware versions above. I'm installing from the SoundBlaster CD-ROM to SCSI setup, and I'm having problems. During the floppy boot, I get the following message: AHA1542_ in failed(3): Unable to determine Adaptec DMA priority. Disabling board No BIOS32 extensions present. This release still depends on it. Sorry. From which point on, the board is disabled, and I have no useable hard disks. This message comes up some time after it has probed the SB16 card. I had to change the factory DMA setting (5) on the AHA1542 card to 6 in order to appease the totally stupid and fascist SoundBlaster 16 card and its software configured settings. (FLAME ON) Why do idiots attempt stuff like this with ISA? Bring back jumpers for all ISA cards. (FLAME OFF) Anyway, what's going on here? I had an old release of Slackware (installed over a network) working fine with this AHA1542 for over a year. The 1542 is as vanilla a SCSI controller as you can get! Any suggestions? thanks Craig.
