Zombies ate my floppy !

Hello,
while doing some copying to floppy disk,
for some reason I ended up with zombie processes, which have succeeded
in locking up my floppy drive.

I have three zombies, two are mount commands and one is a cp.
I think the floppy is corrupted, which accounted for the problem, as I also
had occasional trouble reading this disk in another computer.

Originally I formatted this disk under linux, as an MSDOS format flop.

Since the hangup I have lost all the data on the disk, which I don't care about
much.

The intial symptom was doing a copy to the floppy
at which point I lost control over the xterm I was in: so I destroyed it.

Then I tried unmounting it, in a fresh xterm, but got "device busy"
I heard I could sometimes free a disk in /mnt by removing /etc/mtab~ but this
did not work.

Remounting the disk hung the xterm again and resulted in another 'destroy'
thus more zombies...

Now I cannot find my floppy at all.

Don't tell me I have to reboot to get my floppy disk back!

How do I solve this one?
I consulted all my ever-growing collection of O'Reilly books, but no...

Truly, I think I accidentally removed the flop from the drive without first
summoning umount, so it is my own stupid fault... :(

Please help

Rachel
