kernel mem crash, lost inodes and lost files

Oh dear. I'm running kernel 1.3.10, and this is a lesson in why NOT
to be close to the "cutting edge" of kernel development.

I had a kernel panic, and this is from /var/adm/messages:

I had a root tty going and managed to get a reboot going before things
completely froze. During bootup the following happened:

========8<-----------cut-here------------>8====================
Deleted inode detected with non-zero link count.
This is probably due to old ext2fs kernel code.
Fix inode(s)? yes

Inode 8248 is deleted w/ non-zero link_count. CLEARED
Entry 'lesskey' in /usr/bin (39681) has deleted/unused inode 8246.
Clear? yes

Entry 'tcpd.8.gz' in /usr/man/preformat/cat8 (7940) has deleted/unused inode 8242.
Clear? yes

Entry 'libXt.so.3.1.0' in /lib (7944) has deleted/unused inode 8248.
Clear? yes

Entry 'libldso.a' in /usr/lib (43649) has deleted/unused inode 8245.
Clear? yes

Entry 'Anon-FTP-Setup.gz' in /usr/doc/faq/howto/mini (47712) has deleted/unused inode 8241.
Clear? yes
========8<-----------cut-here------------>8====================

Huh? Old ext2fs kernel code???

Anyway, those files have now gone. Weird, and I wasn't usng them at
all at the time (well, don't know for certain about the lib*so.*
files). I did reboot ok, and things seem to be working ok so far
(haven't tired to run X though).

I can easily replace the Anon-FTP-Setup.gz and lesskey files, but not
so easily the others.

Can some kind soul send me these files (uuencoded [tar] gzip'ed is
fine), especially the library files (or point out where I can get
them)? I also need to know their permissions too.

Heaps of thanks.

I'm using a Slackware 2.2|2.3 linux release (in case that's important).

This isn't the first time this has happened (I've used 1.2.3 and 1.2.8
before and had memory problems), but it's certainly the most serious
aftermath that I've had.

Time to go back to 1.2.11 I think; I'm no kernel hacker, and I want a
stable and reliable system. Meanwhile, is there anywhere to
post/email any serious problem like this - or indeed any point in
letting anyone know what has happened?

Cheers
Tony
