Hi folks.

This one's got me baffled.

When I use mailx version 5.0 on a Sparc running Solaris 2.3, the ~v
tilde escape command gives me the body of the message that I'm writing
AND the headers as well. Very, VERY handy!

But I just can't seem to get mailx 5.5 (linux Slackware 2.3
distribution) to do this at all :-(

I've read the man page, which revealed nothing of any use, and tried
all sorts of things. Is there a variable I can put into my ~/.mailrc
file like "set editheaders" or similar?

(No, "editheaders" doesn't work :-)

I really need to have the ability to edit those headers before the
message is posted!

(And I know about the ~h command that will allow you to modify them;
but this is not good enough - I really need to ADD more header lines,
like "Reply-To: " and so on).

(There's no usenet group for mailx and an archie search only turned up
mailx for linux, so I'm hoping that someone in the above linux groups
will know).

I also need to know more about POP (Post Office Protocol). None of
the faq's, howto's or LDP stuff mentions POP except in passing. If
someone can tell me what software / setup I need to enable it, I'd be
very grateful.

BTW, I have a ppp link and address on the net, and I get sendmail to
pass email using (E)SMTP to and from here and my relay host when I'm
logged on. But I want to be able to collect email that comes to my
accounts on other machines on the (local) network, and I'm told that I
can do this directly by using POP. (Apparently sending email to my
ppp address is unreliable as the messages are not spooled by the relay
host - but I don't know this for certain; I need to get email replies
sent to one of these accounts and not my ppp address).

Many thanks.

(Perhaps I missed something in the faq's, but I've been reading _so_
may howto's, readme's, manpages, faq's etc since I recently installed
linux that this would have been easy to do:)

Cheers
Tony
