I happen to own the above mentioned card, SoundMan >Wave, and can play 16-bit sounds. It has the OPL4 and MPU-401 chips in it. It's true. SM Wave and other Jazz16 based have 16 bit capability (that's why the 16 after Jazz). However they are not SB16 compatible. The 16 bit mode is implemented differently than in SB16. The very latest ALPHA test version of the sound driver (ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming/v3.0-proto-950402.tar.gz) has simple initialization routine for Jazz16 based cards which makes it possible to use MV ProSonic (at least) as a SB Pro clone without initialization without DOS. The SM Wave however has some additional (mixer?) hardware and the initialization code is not sufficient. I'm waiting for some specs from Logitech so let's see what happens next.
