[Pardon the cross-posting, but useful suggestions can come from many
places.]

Problem 1.

The Japanized version of elvis for Linux seems to have a problem, in that it 
falls over with a segmentation fault when I try to edit a large file. The file 
I regularly work on is about 2.9 M, and elvis(j) chokes on it. It leaves a 
dump in /tmp that is 2.3 M, so I suspect it is the magic size. (I have a 16M
machine with a 42M swap partition, so the system size should not be the
problem.)

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix? (I have got around it
by compiling jstevie, the Japanized version of stevie.)

Problem 2.

I have been trying to compile Jeffrey Friedl's excellent "lookup" utility
under Linux, so that I can use his powerful fuzzy regex-s, etc. The make
is crashing mysteriously with a parse error in the middle of the included
stdio.h. Again, has anyone else experience of this? Any suggestions? I have
compiled it previously under SunOS and Ultrix without problems.
