I've managed to get my multiport serial card working - thanks to those
people who replied.

Now I have a problem with getty (at least I think it's getty).

I have the latest version of getty (getty_ps 2.0.7b) and have read all the
README's that came with it, but to no avail - I don't understand why the
following happens:


Currently I have two terminals connected to the multiport card - ttyS16 and
ttyS17.  My inittab is as follows:

....
....
S1:respawn:/bin/getty ttyS16 DT9600 vt100
S2:respawn:/bin/getty ttyS17 DT9600 vt100


My gettydefs file is taken straight from the examples provided with getty_ps.


I log in on ttyS17 and then try to login on ttyS16.  ttyS16 flashes up a
message saying something about no entry in utmp file and something about
not being able to login from a non-login shell.  If I try logging in on 16
again it allows me to log in ok.

Ok - I do a who and I get ttyS16 and ttyS17 listed.  If I now log out on 17
and do a who I get nothing listed!

I have also noticed when doing a ps that the login shell for 17 is owned
by root while the login shell for 16 is owned by cam (the user I logged
in as).

I'm getting really confused!  I get the feeling that getty is getting
confused somehow and is running a getty over the top of another one.

Any ideas on what is going on?
