"Folder" and "directory" mean the same thing. "Folder" is more commonly
used by Windows users and "directory" is more commonly used by Linux
users. But "folder" seems to be used in Linux a lot more nowadays.

Yeah, it's what you see when you go to "Places"-->"Home Folder". You're
obviously using the "Gnome" desktop (there are two common ones for Linux
these days), so that means that When you go to "Places"-->"Home Folder",
you need to click on the "View" option at the top of that window, then
click on "Show Hidden Files". Then you'll be able to find the .evolution
folder.

However, if you want to back up (save a copy of) everything in your home
folder to a CD, look at the top (title) bar of the home folder window -
it should have whatever user name you log in as in it. That's the name
of that folder. Click on the "Up" button and then you should see only a
couple of folders probably. One will be your home folder. If you put a
blank CD in the CD burner and a blank CD icon pops up on the desktop,
you should be able to drag your home folder onto that blank CD icon to
burn the whole lot to the CD. Of course, if there's more data in your
home folder than will fit on a CD, that won't work.
