I know it's just a detail, but /etc/X11/XF86Config is not an executable,
it's just the configuration file. The configuring executable is xf86config
(totally lowercase!) and is probably placed in the /usr/X11/bin directory.
This executable writes /etc/X11/XF86Config, if you don't do it by hand.
So, running /etc/X11/XF86Config won't work; run xf86config (as root).
