Disappearing objects

Howdy,

When I fired up OS/2 this morning, some strange things started happening.

Firstly, my "Main" folder had disappeared. As this is where I keep the
programmes I use the most, it was a bit of a inconvience to have to recreate
the programme objects...

Fair enough, so I went to create a new "Main" folder, and my OS/2 System
folder wouldn't want to take it. I mean, I copuld copy a new folder to it, but
it would disappear and not show up straight away, as it should. If, on the
other hand, I go to drives, and look in the Desktop folder (which, incidently,
I can't double click on, which I should be able to, right?, I have to use the
little +/- box), and open up the OS/2 System icon there, I can see my Main
folder.

If I go and place some programme objects in there, they don't necessarily stay
there next time I look, although I haven't worked out the exact situation when
they will/wont stay there yet.

I tried it just then, making a new object for PM JPEG, which was one of the
objects that disappeared. I dropped it in the Main folder, and it the settings
book came up, as it should, and I entered the details as per ususal and it
seemed to work ok until I closed the settings notebook, and the icon was no
wehre to be seen. If I click on Drives, and go to the desktop then OS/2
System, then Main, I can then see PM JPEG.

By now you should have some idea of my frustration. :)

Any ideas would be much appreciated. I just got WP Tools, as advised by the
FAQ. I will try creating all those objects, backing them up, and then
restarting the machine and seeing if they are there. If not, I will see if a
restore does any good.

I am running OS/2 out of the box with no patches or anything. It's revision
6.514 aapparently.

thanks for your help.
