Trying to get a HP LaserJet, called 4500dup, on my P2P network to work on a Sparc Ultra2 Solaris 9 system. After reading many Sun books and searching net I cannot find out why it will not print. Here are various things I have looked at. # ping 192.168.0.1 is alive my router # ping 192.168.0.109 is alive my network printer 4500dup # ping 4500dup is alive Jobs I think are getting into the queque via the # lpstat -t print out below. One of the things I cannot understand is the info in #lpstat -p 4500dup below. You will notice in the listings below there is another printer, lex3000, on Sparc Ultra2 connected via a parallel cable. It is working okay. # lpstat -r scheduler is running # lpstat -a _default accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST 4500dup not accepting requests since Tue 17 Jul 2007 01:53:12 PM EST - unknown reason lex3000 accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST # accept 4500dup destination "4500dup" now accepting requests # lpstat -a _default accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST 4500dup accepting requests since Mon 23 Jul 2007 02:19:37 PM EST lex3000 accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST # lpstat -p 4500dup printer 4500dup waiting for auto-retry. available. exec exit fault # lpstat -t scheduler is running system default destination: lex3000 system for _default: ultra2 (as printer lex3000) device for 4500dup: /dev/null device for lex3000: /dev/printers/O _default accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST 4500dup accepting requests since Mon 23 Jul 2007 02:19:37 PM EST lex3000 accepting requests since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST printer lex3000 is idle. enabled since Wed 06 Oct 2004 07:38:23 PM EST. available. printer 4500dup waiting for auto-retry. available. exec exit fault 4500dup-4 root 175288 Jul 16 14:59 4500dup-5 root 175288 Jul 16 14:59 4500dup-12 root 181802 Jul 23 14:21 # lpstat -p 4500dup -l printer 4500dup waiting for auto-retry. available. exec exit fault Form mounted: Content types: postscript Printer types: unknown Description: HP LaserJet 4500 Connection: direct Interface: /usr/lib/lp/model/netstandard_foomatic PPD: /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/HP/HP-Color_LaserJet_4500-Postscript.ppd.gz On fault: no alert After fault: continue Users allowed: (all) Forms allowed: (none) Banner page never printed Character sets: (none) Default pitch: Default page size: Default port settings: Options: dest-192.168.0.109, protocol-tcp # lpadmin -p 4500dup -F continue # enable 4500dup printer "4500dup" now enabled As a last resort I cancelled all the old job items out of the queque, but still no luck. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks Basil
