Don't buy Petrol on April 30, 1999 ...? It's time we did something about the price of Petrol in Australia! We are all sick and tired of high prices - when there are literally millions of gallons in storage. Know what we recently found out? The so-called oil cartel has decided to slow Australian production by some 2 million barrels per day to drive up the price. If there was just ONE day when nobody purchased petrol, the price you pay will drop dramatically. We've therefore decided to see how many Australians we can encourage to NOT BUY PETROL on one specific day! Let's have a PETROL OUT! Do not buy any petrol on APRIL 30, 1999. Buy on the Thursday before, or Saturday after. Do NOT buy any petrol on FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1999. Want to help? Send this message to everyone you know. Ask them to do the same. Talk to your friends. You - personally - CAN make a difference to the price you pay for your petrol.

But, if fuel purchase was just postponed, how will it affect total sales? Can't see what the problem is. Petrol here is some of the cheapest in the developed world; second only after USA, i believe. If you want expensive fuel check out Europe, particularly the northern countries. Petrol is typically around 1.80-2.10AUD per litre! Anyway, it's not really the oil companies that are raking it in from petrol sales. Petrol does not make up the majority of their production and due to other pressures their margins are already pretty thin. Most of the end price is taken in tax and duty by the beloved Government. If you want to protest to someone how about your state/federal politicians. The content of this posting is one of the older "net-lore" themes. (Net lore being Internet folk lore). These articles can be dispelled as a myth, but continue circulation based upon their angle of potential conspiracy against the average man in the street. Other more memorable documents include the one about the cookie recipe, sending post cards to the kid with cancer, violent crimes/rapes/murders that are alledged to be occurring in a major US town, confirmed by the police, yet not reported by the media. Beyond that, you get into the Myth emails....sending messages to as many friends as possible to get a free copy of Win 98 from Bill Gates, trip to Disney Land, etc. For further research, set your search engine to mining.com, www.kumite/myths, urban-legends.com, etc. Basically, they are not worth serious debate, as you will see the same (or similar) messages appear again and again over your web life. In the Netherlands where I live petrol costs about A$ 1.65.
About 70 % of this price is tax.
The price of crude oil does only affect the price of fuel a few cents a
year.
But our government tries to encourage (mostly)car users to make use of the
public transportation system because our roads are extremely overcrowded.
They raise the prices sometimes up to 10 to 20 cents a time.
I wonder if your government is pulling off something to make you pay more
tax.
