Starting a shares/stocks information business

I am thinking about starting a new business (in Australia),
and I'd like present my ideas here and see if I can get
some feedback regarding feasibility (etc.).

1. Product concept: A service that notifies the customer
when a share(s) price reaches a certain level, definable
by the customer.

2. Background: Currently (at least in Australia), a
broker might ring up a share-information service to get
share prices. He might have access to a web based service
at the office, but if he's on the road, he'll use the
phone service. The cost is about 1 australian dollar per
minute. The operation is quite tedious, using the phone
keypad.

3. The service I propose would allow the customer to
set up a notification rule (for example, "call me when
share X goes above $2.30"), and the server would
automatically dial up his phone/cell-phone when that
condition occurs. The message that is played to the
customer can be generated by a text-to-speech program
on the server.

4. The customer can set up the rules using a web
browser, or (at an extra cost) by talking to a
human operator.

5. Pricing would be competitive. Perhaps around $50
per month?

6. Operating costs for the business would include:
     a. marketing
     b. support/call-center
     c. web-server(s)/call server(s)
     d. stock exchange information feed

7. What would be the demand for this kind of service,
bearing in mind that this can be used by brokers as
well as their customers? Would you find this kind of
service useful?

8. What would be the cost of the data feed from
the stock exchange? I presume it would vary depending
on the frequency of the updates? (every minute, every
second etc.)

9. Will the marketing cost be the highest operating
cost? Would it be prohibitive at this fee level?

10. Technically, it seems like a fairly simple project.
I will need some unix servers for the web hosting, a
database for the stock data, and some software to
generate the messages to the customers and call them
up. Or am I missing something?

11. Does this kind of service already exist? In
Australia? Elsewhere?

12. Anything else I should be thinking about?

Thank you for your advice.
