Well there are things u can do about tail gating. Firstly you can just
touch your brakes to give them a friendly reminder to stop. :-)
I find slowing down when they tail gate teaches them a lesson. I try not
to do this if the tail gater is being followed as i only want to
inconvenience the tailgater, and no one else. This technique works
best when they can't pass :-)
As a passenger i often turn my head around and glare at the tail gater,
usually intimidating them into backing off. I was surprised when this worked
the first time, and now do it often to tailgaters.
There is one last thing you can do. This isn't an urban legend, this
actually happens. On manual cars the reverse light relay is engaged long
before the car changes gears when the gear stick is moved into the reverse
position. Therefore tiping the gear stick slightly into the reverse
position will engage the reverse lites, while the car continues to go
forward. The reverse lights come one and the tailgater backs right off
:-) i haven't done this one personally.
I know of someone who wired a switch into his cars dashboard which
engaged the reverse lights when it was turned on. :-) This is a very
neat option. The same person re-routed the tube that squirts water onto
the windscreen into the car, so that whenever he made it squirt the
frond seat passanger got wet. But that is another story :-)
Cheers,
