G'day

How may I get a figure to span two columns of text? I have some figures
that are too wide to be printed in one column, so how can I get them to span
both columns with two-column text above/below them on the same page? The
\onecolumn \twocolumn commands also do a \clearpage, so this is no
solution. floatfig.sty doesn't handle twocolumn mode. What can I do?
