In <chrisp.698335859@wambenger> I write: >G'day >How may I get a figure to span two columns of text? I have some figures >that are too wide to be printed in one column, so how can I get them to span >both columns with two-column text above/below them on the same page? The >\onecolumn \twocolumn commands also do a \clearpage, so this is no >solution. floatfig.sty doesn't handle twocolumn mode. What can I do? To beat everyone to the punch ---R T F M---. Well I would have if my dog hadn't eaten it, actually an honours student forgot to return it to me before departing for Adelaide leaving me with only "LaTeX for Engineers and Scientists" (not recommended). Anyway the solution is to use the figure* environment. Apparently this is in the manual. It works. My apologies for breaking a golden rule. Chris.
