Doug, I am running MCXpress on an NT box with great success. I am using a Sony digital camera for the source material. I have edited some six hours of video down to aprox an hour. It went painlessly. Transisions are easy, disolves, slowmo and titling a breeze. At 180k per frame output quality is as close to the camera origional as possible. I have found no bugs to date. MCXpress does require a 'puter with lots of grunt though! I am using a twin Pentium II 300mhz with 256mb of ram and four 9.1gb scsi III drives, so while MCXpress is "inexpensive" the hardware is less so. Do keep in mind that I am in Australia and hardware costs a little more here then if u are in the US, but pick your hardware and especially your hard disks with great care. Please note that to use the latest Targa drivers for NT4 you will need to have installed Service Pack 4.
