Log Of Events Relating to Purchase Of Printer From Dell

13/09/99
Ordered HP portable printer from Dell

15/09/99
Date of acknowledgement from Dell. Estimated date of delivery is 20/09/99

28/09/99
According to Dell ORDER STATUS on web site, the order was with carrier from
27/09/99

30/09/99
I phoned Dell using Automated order status line and was told that the order
no, printed on the Order Acknowledgement was invalid. After a long time, I
got through to Simon who, after further delay, said he would get back to me
probably around midday. He did not. In afternoon I attempted to phone again
and after holding for ages I spoke to a person who put me on hold again for
ages. (Again listening to the same infuriating messages about how great
their web-site is). I gave up and sent a fax asking for an urgent response
and giving a phone number where I could be reached. No one called.

01/10/99 Dell withdrew the payment for the computer from Bank Account in
breach of their terms which state that the money will not be withdrawn until
the goods are dispatched.
AM: Attempted to e-mail "Shipment and Order Information" at Dell. The
address was invalid. Sent email to Sales asking them to forward it.
I sent 2 more faxes asking Dell to get in touch, and advising of suitable
number for Simon to contact me. He did not.
M. Shell spent 55 minutes on phone trying to get through and was very upset
as a result. She finally left message with Mr O'Toole's answering machine.
He never got back to her.
I faxed a message, from M. Shell, asking Dell to contact us.
No response.
PM: 1355. Eventually got through to Tracy of Customer Care. Sorry they are
unable to trace it as it is "Only a part". Will get onto "their
manufacturers" and get back to me. Took my phone no. No return call.
1600 No response so I faxed them again with copy of log to date and informed
them it was on bulletin boards. Difficult to get fax through.

02/10/99
PM Faxed copies of all 6 pages sofar to Dell on 01344 860187. No response.

04/10/99
Faxed Dell again suggesting they get in touch, but not a squeak from them.
They apparently shipped the printer today.

05/10/99
Printer delivered at 1710.
12/10/99 No reply from Dell to any of the letters, faxes or the email. Why
did they not advise that the printer had finally been sent? Why did they
withdraw the money before shipping? Why did they fail to get back to me when
they promised to do so? Why did they fail to respond to two letters, more
than 7 faxes and one email? Oh - when I ordered a laptop for M. Shell a few
weeks earlier, the web site said carriage was extra. I did not know how much
until I got invoice - around 50 for (inside) UK delivery. 50 to deliver a
laptop!!!
