Does anybody know if JAVA supports TCP/IP Sockets over Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)(for serial comms) ??? If so, is there somewhere where I can find out more? If not, do I need to write straight to the RS-232 port? Any help/commentary would be greatly appreciated. Hello James, Java supports networking, using both stream and datagram, start by looking at the java.net class (documentation for which can be found freely at http://java.sun.com) - try http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/docs/api/Package-java.net.html The level of API is high enough that it doesn't matter what the underlaying network transport is (PPP or ethernet, etc.). If you're interested in serial communications with Java, you want to look at the JComm 2.0 spec, available via the free Java Developer Connection at http://java.sun.com/ Let me know if this helps.
