I had a bad experience with Computer Rennaisance in Cypress, CA. I brought my 486 in to try to sell it to them. They made a decent offer and then told me I would have to leave it there for "testing" before they would go through with the deal. I got a receipt and left it. They never called after promising they would call at a certain time to inform me if the 486 "passed" the "tests" and would be purchased. I called them and was told they didn't want to buy the 486 itself because it hade low density drives, but would gladly buy the monitor by itself. I picked up the system and monitor figuring it would be more attractive on the used market as a complete system. I advertised it for sale and a week later, when the ad came out, I set it up to show it to a prospective buyer. *It didn't boot.* It would not recognize the hard drive at all. The Computer Rennaisance tech guy had somehow screwed up the boot sector. I ended up reformatting the drive. This is a bit irritating. But the hours I spent trouble-shooting it were very irritating. I called Computer Rennaisance and asked them how they "test" a PC. They told me that they just run diags on it. Well whatever they did it made a fully functioning PC into a trouble-shooting job for me. I will call back when the owner is in to tell him how they screwed up my system. At this point I am not seeking compensation. But wanted to warn prospective computer buyers that Computer Rennaisance in Cypress, CA doesn't seem to have a clue. It might be smart to steer clear of this company. -- Mark remove x's to reply
