WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION
The Beast has signed. It is now official, after many reports saying so
here in PWH in the past, Dan Severn has announced that he is now part of the
World Wrestling Federation. This ends much speculation whether or not the
former UFC champion was indeed WWF bound.
However, when and how the current NWA World's champion will debut is
still a toss up. Severn has prior commitments (ie, independent wrestling
dates) booked until the end of the year. The WWF has been trying to figure out
a suitable way to introduce Severn, hence the fact that he is still out of the
fold.
The WWF would like to set up a program between Severn and another former
UFC champion, that being Ken Shamrock. The WWF originally had wanted a
Wrestlemania match between the two, but they decided to build up the feud
first and posibly having it main event a future PPV.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
If their was one promotion that seemed to have it all.. money, talent and
a partnership with perhaps the richest organization in the world it was World
Championship Wrestling. However, all that luxury has made for some difficult
situations and some that may end a very profitable partnership.
New Japan Pro Wrestling and WCW have had a working agreement for several
years now and it has benefited both organizations. From talent like Ric Flair,
Lex Luger, Sting, Dusty Rhodes and more heading to Japan to appear on many a
dome show to talent like Tatsumi Fujinami, Keiji Mutoh (Great Muta), Masahiro
Chono and Jushin Liger coming abroad to showcase their talent for the American
fans.
That agreement is in serious jeopardy of becoming a thing of the past as
the tensions between the two are at an all time high. It all started when WCW
decided to take New Japan to court over use of the nWo trademark. If that did
not strain the relationship then the current WCW act has. WCW is refusing to
send Scott Norton to the orient in order to compete in a rematch with Kensuke
Sasaki. Norton has defeated Sasaki in a non title match during the last tour
and New Japan was prepared to hype a rematch between the two.
Eric Bischoff and company also have problems with the mexican talent in
which they employ. Bischoff has talked to Konan in which he said that he no
longer wants any of the cruiserweight talent booked in Mexico. This is a major
problem as this also includes Konan as he is part owner and booker of the
Promo Azteca organization in Mexico. Bischoff feels since the luchadores have
signed contracts with WCW he should have exlusive rights to them. This only
upsets the luchadores even more than they already have been.
If WCW loses their hold on these deals then he could be in jeopardy of
losing that stranglehold he has had on american wrestling for the past 2
years.
EXTREME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
ECW, as has been well documented, will be presenting their 5th PPV on
May3rd entitled "Wrestlepalooza." The event will originate from Marrieta,
Georgia (right outside of Atlanta) at the Cobb County Civic Center.
Tickets for the event went on sale today (Friday, March 6) at 10 am at
all Ticketmaser locations around the Atlanta area as well and the Cobb County
Civic Center box office.
For fans that are interested in obtaining tickets here is the ticket
prices. For ringside seats, first and second row, the price is $100. The next
level of pricing is the $50 level in which fans wanting the remaining floor
seats will have to pay. The next tier of seats is the fold down bleacher
sections in which on two sides of the ring there are 11 rows. Rows 1-5 are
general admission and goes for $25. Rows 6-11 are also general admission and
go for $15.
Tickets can be bought by calling Ticketmaster locations and ordering from
them. There is a $4.50 service charge for using Ticketmaster. Or you can order
