"California now ranks 46th in per capita spending on the arts _ at 36 
cents per person.  While New York recently increased its Arts Council 
budget to over 40 Million, the budget for the California Arts Council is 
only 12.7 million.

Senator Adam B Schiff, Chair of the Joint Committee on the Arts, has 
intorduced Senate Bill 1373, calling for an investment of at least 1$ per 
capita in the arts.  This proposed increase n the budget for the  
California Arts Council, to 35 million, recognizes the critical fole of 
the arts and evtyertainment in the states economic activity in California.
The arts generate ove 2 billion in annual economic activity in 
California"
 and every dollar spent on te arts turns t 20.00 back to the 
commmunity.
