The following observations were found at:

A newsworthy article was published in the Baltimore SUN newspaper last
December '96 entitled "Convention Center official quits, then assails
his boss." Guess who that boss was..... the current director Ms. Peggy
Daidakis (is anyone surprised?). Mr. Jim Kelley (the former deputy
director at the Baltimore Convention Center) asserted that he
was "stonewalled in repeated atempts to root out incompetence" (haven't
we heard this theme before?). Mr. Kelley continued that "he had become
increasingly frustrated by what he called Director Peggy Daidakis'
mismanagement of the center, particularly her refusal to make mid-level
managers more accountable for results" (shouldn't managers be
responsible and held accountable for timely results?).

Apparently, Mr. Kelley reprimanded several supervisors in writing
for "repeatedly failing to ensure basic tasks were completed such as
painting meeting rooms, moving trade shows in and out of the center on
time, scrubbing exhibit halls between events and ensuring clean and
well-stocked bathrooms" (haven't we heard some of these problems re-
communicated by the former Director of Building Services in the Spring
of 1997?). When Mr. Kelley attempted to discipline these mid-level
managers, Ms. Daidakis "would undermine him by overruling him" (is Ms.
Daidakis adept at undermining?). Mr. Kelley continued "I came to help
create a world-class facility, but Peggy was willing to settle for
mediocrity..... to me, mediocrity is not enough; I don't want any part
of that" (Why settle for mediocrity in Baltimore..... take your
convention business elsewhere!).
