BALTIMORE -- An old Baltimore neighborhood, receives a breath of
new life thanks to a major grocery chain, WBAL-TV 11 News reporter
Rob Roblin reported.

Officials, Neighbors Celebrate Waverly Grocery Store Opening
Baltimore's Waverly neighborhood, where the Orioles' Memorial
Stadium once stood, has a new supermarket -- but neighbors
reserved their skepticism about development.

A development called Stadium Place replaces the now torn down
stadium with a retirement community and a YMCA.

Hoenig said homeownership is increasing, noting that as a positive
change. The new Giant Food store comes after Johns Hopkins
redeveloped the old Eastern High School.

Giant Food officials said they wouldn't have opened the new store
in Waverly if they didn't believe the neighborhood would continue
developing.

Store spokesman Dave Ferraro said they expect strong lunch crowds
from Johns Hopkins employees and neighborhood residents.

The new store opens at 6 a.m. Thursday.
