Baltimore port to extend deal with Finland paper supplier Maryland Port Administration officials will announce on Friday a three-year contract extension with UPM-Kymmene, a leading paper manufacturer based in Finland. The renewed deal cements the Port of Baltimore's place as a top destination for imported forest products. The deal guarantees more than half a million tons of forest products will be imported from Finland over the next five years, state officials said. Also, almost 557,000 covered shed space will be used and a 300,000-square-foot paper shed will be built. More than a million tons of forest products -- paper, pulp and lumber -- passed through the Port of Baltimore during its record-breaking 2003, a 20 percent increase over the previous year. The Port of Baltimore's public terminals handled 7.1 million tons of cargo last year.
