REF: Warning/US Green card lottery,

                                  Hello,
Several people contacting me via E-mail have told me that the information I
provided them with is different from an ad which has been running in some
Canadian newspapers; I got hold of one of these ads, published in the Globe
and Mail "Classified Personals" week-end section of May the 30th.
The ad states that << people born in 34 countries including Canada can apply
for 190,000 visas>>; this is a TOTALLY INACCURATE and POTENTIALLY MISLEADING
statement.
It is true that the lottery is open to people born in 34 countries including
Canada, however this is a 3 years lottery (1991, 1992, 1993) and the TOTAL
QUOTA of green cards FOR THE 3 YEARS is 120,000, allocated for each of the 3
years the lottery is held IN ANNUAL QUOTAS OF 40,000 green cards; a total of
40% of the total green cards quota is reserved for people born in Ireland;
this quota is annually reflected by a minimum lottery allocation of 16,000
green cards for Ireland-born people; this annual quota is equivalent to 40% of
the 40,000 annual total green cards quota. The particular situation of
Ireland-born people has been the object of many e-mail enquiries and I'll do a
separate posting for that.
The above is the Law, as voted by the US congress in the new 1990 US
Immigration Act, don't let any scammers tell you anything different.
 Good luck to you all,

 Claude H. Cohendy
