Did you try VN/user name - that is how I was instructed to configure
(not "/VNuser"

In the email notice which I was fortunate enough to receive
from Verio, they pointed out that send mail might not work
using smtp.best.com (although it does still work for me). They
suggested trying smtp.veriomail.com.

To get a login name and password for ca.news.verio.net, email 
news@verio.com.

I emailed them on a Sunday evening and received the name and
password the following morning.
