Good - a checkgroups message will be much better than more flocks of
newgroup/rmgroup messages.

I note that about a third of the bit.listserv groups have had no traffic at
all lately. Can you remove the groups whose lists are no longer active?
Quite a few groups have NEVER had any articles in. People are finding
the long active and .newsrc files a nuisance - and according to our main
feed site a performance problem too; they have started a debate on dropping
bit.all in the UK altogether.

Also, a few groups (e.g b.l.tex, b.l.virus) seem to match up with existing
unewsgroups: can the mailing lists be gatewayed to those instead, so as to
avoid paying for transmitting the same material twice?

Finally, for people concerned with the volume, these have been the ten
highest volume groups recently (as seen at this site):

    7 days Name
---------- ----
 172 354k hellas
  63 282k ibmtcp-l
  92 233k christia
 144 219k allmusic
 103 206k novell
  90 176k mbu-l
   6 158k apple2-l
  46 102k politics
  32 96k i-amiga
  52 93k games-l

I wonder if b.l.hellas could be merged with soc.culture.greek?
Most of the others look mergable too. This would reduce the
exclusively listserv volume considerably, and make the remaining
traffic more acceptable to sites worried about volume.
