The post below is from news.lists containing Usenet distributions. Can anyone think of a reason why the "bit" distribution should be retained? Although we used it at one time to try and restrict bit.** newsgroups to BitNet sites, the bit.** groups have long since escaped to the wider world. I have removed it from all my tools since it is apparent that many sites will pass along posts to bit.** newsgroups but will not pass along posts which contain a bit distribution tag. I can't think of a reason we'd want to restrict a post to BitNet sites. --- Jim McIntosh (jim@american.edu) The American University Washington DC 20016-8019 USA --------------8<---------------(cut here)---------------8<--------------- Archive-name: distributions/logical Version: $Id: dist.org,v 1.6 1992/05/17 06:29:33 mdl Exp mdl $ Here is a list of ORGANIZATIONAL & Logical Network DISTRIBUTIONS, available to Usenet as a whole. I'm not interested in internal distributions, only public distributions that your organization passes around widely. If you don't care who sees your organization's news, then send in your information. If however your news is private, then don't send your information, and if you see your distribution here, then ask to have it removed. If YOU consider it a local or limited distribution, it shouldn't be here. PLEASE BE SOME SORT OF OFFICIAL PERSON when asking to add or remove organizational distributions here. Please feel free to add to it, or point out things that shouldn't be there, I know it's not complete, or necessarily correct. Also, if you note inconsistencies or misspellings, please send them along as corrections. Please use your organizations headquarters for an address, or anything else you feel more appropriate. PLEASE NOTE that any submissions not in the correct format will be discarded without notification by an apathetic computer. When you send an update to me, please don't quote my article back to me. Simply note your corrections. Otherwise your submission may be discarded by an apathetic computer. FORMAT: ------- One of ADD, DELETE, CORRECT. To differentiate corrections from additions and deletions easily, please use the following format. ADD distribution: City/COUNTY-PROVINCE/STATE/COUNTRY DELETE distribution: City/COUNTY-PROVINCE/STATE/COUNTRY CORRECT old entry|new entry The "distribution tag" should be lower case. The others should be upper case iff they have been defined elsewhere as a distribution. If it *has* been defined, then please use the actual distribution tag. If a distribution has *not* been defined, then please spell out the name, in lower case, (DO NOT USE YOUR POSTAL CODE) and mark it with an asterisk (*). See "crl" for an example of this. The first word after the colon (:) should describe the word before the colon completely. The first character after the colon is a space, one space only. Thanks!
