There is no  bit.listserv.gis-l newsgroup. The newgroup  message for this
group  sent by  news@thrush.umesve.maine.edu.  was  not authorized.  I've
posted a rmgroup message  to get rid of the newsgroup.  The GIS-L list is
currently gated to comp.infosystems.gis here at auvm.american.edu.
