Better propagation, more traffic?

Note, the Followup-To line is set to bit.admin. Is there any interest in moving the newsgroup side of this mailing list to the comp.text.* hierarchy? This would at least double the propagation of the newsgroup, permitting many readers to switch over from e-mail subscriptions, and allow many more people to find and use the newsgroups (thanks to a more logical placement in the Usenet "namespace). No doubt, it would also create more traffic: this may be a good or a bad thing, depending on how current readers feel about the traffic level now. I'd like to propose: in place of: comp.text.bibliography.endnote bit.listserv.endnote comp.text.bibliography.notabene bit.listserv.notabene The gateways to the ENDNOTE and NOTABENE mailing lists would be moved accordingly. (Does bit.listserv.endnote have a mailing list attached? It doesn't appear on the global list of LISTSERV mailing lists.) Comp.text.* is propagated to about 80% of Usenet, compared to 30% for bit.listserv.*. Newsgroups in comp.text.* include: comp.text.desktop comp.text.frame comp.text.interleaf comp.text.sgml comp.text.tex List owners: how do you feel about this suggestion? -- Una Smith smith-una@yale.edu Department of Biology, Yale University, New Haven, CT 06520-8104 USA

The present listserver has crashed several times over the last year and the traffic has been pretty low. > The gateways to the ENDNOTE and NOTABENE mailing lists would be moved > accordingly. I subscribe to my chosen newsgroups so that they appear at the head of the list and are read when I come on line. I don't see why bibliography sould be in there. This is a word processing program and that's what I would be looking for. I subscribed to this group because it said Notabene. Linda Schele

Why not
comp.databases.endnote ???
Newsgroups in the comp.databases.* hierarchy include
comp.databases.paradox
comp.databases.sybase
comp.databases.xbase.fox
and many others....
This would seem a more appropriate place for a database program to be discussed.

I would like to encourage this change. It won't affect me much, since I already read this group through usenet, but it might indeed promote more traffic. In addition, bitnet, IMHO, is in decline. Our university has dropped bitnet and now is using only internet (and usenet). Putting the group on usenet should improve delivery times and performance.
