JOB ANNOUNCEMENT -- 5 POSITIONS FOR WOLF STUDY The University of Idaho and the Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit have been awarded a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to conduct a feasibility study on the reintroduction of gray wolves to Olympic Peninsula. This project has a completion date of 30 August. Thus, we have an immediate need to hire a research team. This study will analyze and evaluate existing information, but some new data may be collected during assessment of potential wolf habitats and prey populations. In the next 4-6 weeks we will hire 5 people; 1 at the Post-Doc level, and 4 people with M.S. degrees. All individuals must be able to report to Moscow, Idaho by approximately 15 May 1998. The Post Doc will be hired for 5 months @ $18/hr with total compensation of $14,400. The M.S.-level individuals will be hired for 3.5 months @ $14/hr with total compensation of $7,840. The most important qualification for employment will be an ability to comprehend and synthesize literature and other factual information quickly, and to clearly and effectively write topic reports with short deadlines. We seek individuals with a background in two or more of the following areas: habitat and landscape ecology, behavioral ecology, canine ecology, ungulate ecology, predator-prey relationships, conservation biology, disease, computer and statistical applications, GIS, sociology of natural resources, and socio-economic analysis. This will be a "de novo" study; i.e., "participants must be impartial regarding the ultimate decision of wolf reintroduction, and must not have expressed a position on wolf reintroduction which would indicate an inability to be impartial." Because of the short time period for initiation and completion of this project, we solicit your help with identification of potential applicants for the 5 positions described above. Please feel free to post this information or give it to possible candidates. For additional information candidates may contact John Ratti (208-885-7741, email jratti@uidaho.edu) or Mike Scott (208-885-6960, email mscott@uidaho.edu). Applicants should submit an application letter and formal resume with names and telephone numbers of 3 references as soon as possible to: John Ratti, Research Professor Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources University of Idaho Moscow, Idaho 83844-1136 ************************** John T.
