Job Title: Several openings may be available from the junior
to the senior level in the HIV Program Evaluation Research
Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC). Of special interest are persons with strength in
quantitative methods, qualitative methods, meta analysis,
data systems development and management, evaluation capacity
building for organizations, or cost-benefit and cost-
effectiveness analysis. Other expertise will be seriously
considered.

Responsibilities: The Program Evaluation Research Branch
evaluates the processes, effectiveness, efficiency, and
impacts of HIV prevention activities, interventions,
programs, strategies, and policies. Evaluators and others
working in the branch plan, develop, and implement
evaluations and evaluation research. This may include, but
not be limited to, developing methodologies, overseeing
specific phases of evaluation and evaluation research,
including design and implementation of research protocols;
analyzing data, applying findings to improve local, state,
and national prevention efforts, and publishing guidelines
and scientific articles. Branch staff collaborate with a
variety of individuals and organizations, including the
centers, institutes, and offices of CDC, other components of
the United States Public Health Service, external research
and evaluation organizations, health care providers and
institutions, public health departments, community, regional,
and national organizations, universities, and individuals.
Staff also serve as project officers for short- and long-term
studies and as evaluation experts providing consultation and
assistance to providers of prevention and evaluation
services.

Salary Range: Depending on qualifications, candidates for
these positions usually qualify at the GS-11 to GS-14 salary
levels. In 1998, the salary ranges were as follows. There
will be increases for 1999, but were not available when this
notice was written.
GS-11: $38,871 to $50,530       GS-13: $55,400 to $72,019
GS-12: $46,588 to $60,568       GS-14: $65,466 to $85,104
