You know that saying, " The only dumb question is the in one you haven't asked"? Well today, I'm testing that theory. So after reading the numerous posts on the ReadExtFile function I gave it a whirl and actually got it to work. I examined the showme file "Write.A5p" and traced where the text file had been imported from. It was located in C:\WINDOWS\A5W_DATA. In the text string below, I am having trouble understanding the part where it says "RecordsLocation" RetrievedText:=ReadExtFile(RecordsLocation^"test.txt") 1. Does "RecordsLocation" mean it will default to look in C:\WINDOWS\A5W_DATA ? 2. How would I tell it to look in C:\testfolder\readtext 3. Finally, what does that ^ symbol mean. Ernest
