There is a student fee, somwhere around 2-5 dollars per credit hour for all students (at least undergraduates). There might be a larger one for selected computer courses, but I am not sure. Something like 20,000 undergraduate students. The fee is used to support some mainframe CMS; creating, maintaining, supporting hand-on workstation computer labs (Macs and IBMs); Helpdesk/user support functions, etc. Major expansion of available labs for students has occurred because of the fee. I believe I heard at a recent ribbon ceremony for a new lab in the student union that they have 800-900 workstations now publicly available for students with plans to get to 1200. Some of the dormitories have access with plans for others. I believe a long term desire is to wire individual rooms in University owned dorms. Also think I heard something about working with the Greek system to wire some of the on campus houses. If you don't get a more definitive reply from the University of Missouri, and would like more details, I can probably pass the request on to someone with direct knowledge of the details. I do know that it took quite a bit of campus politicing for a number of years to get the fee instituted. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Scott Stager Bitnet: CCFSSTAG@MIZZOU1 | | University Computing Services Internet: CCFSSTAG@MIZZOU1.MISSOURI.EDU| | University of Missouri Phone: (314)-882-9289 |
