I have been a member of this group for 12~15 years and when the Yahoo group was first created I checked it out. I hate the interface and constant advertising. Two groups that I am a member of are on Yahoo, I am extremely interested in the topics so while I hate the advertising I live with it. I much prefer the Usenet. As for the Spam before the list server was detached there was a small amount. The Spammer that still pops up now hated any and insisted that everyone leave this group and join what he referred to his group on Yahoo. He never specified exactly what he meant by his group whether it meant he was just a member or truly owned the group. He bragged about the porn sign-ups and the acknowledgement notices came across the list server. If you don't remember it I'm sorry my ISP only keeps messages for 30 days. The Spammer was using a remail to hide his ID. I knew nothing of remailers at the time but I decided to do some research. I found that many Usenet groups are filled with messages strictly through remailers, groups that include names like pre-teen, adolescent, etc. I had always heard of the dark under-belly of the internet but I'd never known exactly where. I always assumed the "dark side" existed on web-sites, it's not it is on Usenet sites. There is an entire sub-culture supporting it. For access to child pornography there are specialized News Servers you pay extra for that gives you access to the most base of groups, there are remailers in a variety of forms to protect the pornographers, etc. The Spammer has used his pornographic connections to make this group uncomfortable to be in. Even after the list server was detached and people stayed here he continued to post porn here but since he couldn't sign up the group through the list server he had to post the messages manually one at a time. There is a connection of Specialized news-servers and remailers with pornography. Randy
