While the spam problem really got OUT of hand a few months ago (has it been
a couple years already?), I kept checking this newsgroup from Google News
and just discarded the tons of bogus messages... so I never left this place
at all. I am an active suscriber to the Maltedmedia list, the Yahoo! groups,
the Delphi CoCo SIG and the Vintage Computing Forum in what is still called
Compuserve. All the places where the CoCo was discussed on are welcome from
this side of the keyboard <g>.
The Delphi CoCo SIG is almost deserted, there's an ocassional post every two
months or so, but the messages in storage in there dating as far back as
1985. Sadly, Delphi Forums has a monthly charge to "upgrade" the free
account in order to be able to search messages from the begining og time...
but if you punch in a msg number (like 175) in the Advanced Search screen
you can get something like:

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SIG. WE ARE PLEASED TO HAVE YOU. A WORD ON THE MENUS
AND PROMPTS.
WHEN YOU FIRST COME ONE HERE, YOU ARE IN A HIGHLY-INTENSIVE MENU MODE. YOU
MIGHT SAY, WE ARE SPOONFEEDING TO HELP YOU GET STARTED.
BUT, ONCE THE MENUS BECOME ANNOYING, YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF. INITIALLY, YOU
ARE IN THE FULL MENU, (PROMPT MODE THREE). AFTER A BIT OF PRACTICE, TRY THE
/P COMMAND TO CHANGE TO PROMPT MO DE 2. TYPE THIS: /P 2 BEFORE LONG, EVEN
THAT ABBREVIATED MODE CAN BE SHORTENED BY USING /P 1 WHEN YOU COME ON.
ONCE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE, GO TO THE MAIN PROMPT OUTSIDE THIS SIG AND SET
YOUR PROMPT MODE PERMANENTLY TO YOUR CHOICE.
ALSO, EVEN THE SLASH COMMANDS IN CONFERENCE CAN BE SHORTENED. FOR INSTANCE
WHILE /TIME WILL GIVE THE TIME, SO WILL /T
SO, ONCE YOU LEARN THE BASICS, YOU CAN WHIZ THROUGH HERE.
YOU WILL FIND THIS TO BE VERY USER-FRIENDLY. JUST AS BASIC IS A HIGH-LEVEL
LANGUAGE, THIS IS A HIGH-LEVEL SIG: EASY FOR HUMANS TO UNDERSTAND.

This is the real value of Delphi... the archive.
Compuserve, on the other hand, actualy did more to stomp all over the
orphaned vintage computer forums. The old CoCo and OS9 forums (along with
the Tandy forum) were mangled into the Vintage Computing Forum some time
ago, many, many files in those forums were lost - seemingly forever, and the
msgs archive seems to be gone also... heck!, the CoCo does not even have a
dedicated "slot" in the new VC Forum, everything's spread around in the
'Orphaned Computers', 'Other Operating Systems', etc. But, it still provides
for a gathering place for vintage technology fans.
My $0.02 worth... I'll keep the door open on all and whatever venue becomes
available for the CoCo :-)
