Dear Community Activist,
It is my pleasure to introduce you to a friend and colleague of mine,
and someone who possibly could be of assistance to you in your quest to
bring greater awareness to your non-profit organization or cause. His
name is Ellison Horne, and for 15 years Ellison has been documenting and
capturing the struggles and joys of the non-profit world in the Bay
Area. He is an award winning videographer and documentarian, and here
are just a few of Ellisons credits. In 1988 he was awarded a National
Endowment for the Arts grant to fund his participation in the National
Institute of Arts and Disabilities educational series, Freedom to
Create. He participated in Mayo Angelou:Rainbow in the Clouds,
broadcast on PBS in 1993. He has produced, directed, and edited four
video-documentaries on AIDS, crack cocaine recovery and incest abuse for
Glide Church in San Francisco; training, promotional, and documentary
videos for Laguna Honda, Pacific Presbyterian, and Mt. Zion hospitals;
and many educational videos for innovative school programs throughout
the State such as Project 2061: A Challenge Approach to Education, for
the SF Unified School District and Childrenís Own Stories Project, in
the San Diego School District. Ellison also just finished a short piece
on Tibet entitled Tibet Calls, which is being shown at several
fundraisers. He will be starting on a longer piece soon.
Using video as a tool for better understanding the complex issues we
face living in America , Ellison Horne has curated and hosted a number
of exhibitions and public forums. He has lectured on professional
videography-related topics at SFSU and the University of California
Extension at Berkeley. Ellison is also a member of The Film Arts
Foundation, SF Black Chamber of Commerce, and The Bay Area Black
Journalist Association. He has also been a juror for the last three
years for the SF International Film Festival.
Now he is president of his new production company, Eclectus Media,
promoting ìUnity Through Diversity.¡ The first project of eclectus
Media is an imaginative, live, multiple-media Town-Hall television
series called SOLUTIONS, to be aired on ABC in 1999. Besides the TV
series however, Ellison is still very much interested in helping
non-profit organizations get their message out to a wider audience.
Whether it be by capturing a one-time event put on by the organization,
or by producing a documentary on the entire history of a group or cause,
that could be used as a fundraising tool.. Eclectus also has two
editing/graphics suites, one is a on-line digital system and the other
is a SVHS linear system. They are available at affordable prices, and
for more information please contact us at any of the numbers listed
below or stop by our studios at the corner of Market and Hyde in the New
Orpheum Theater.
We look forward to hearing from you and keep up your much needed work.
